Bottom: result of applying the gradient to the original image with the Gradient Map filter. This filter uses the current gradient, as shown in the Brush/Pattern/Gradient area of the Toolbox, to recolor the active layer or selection of the image to which the filter is applied. To use it, first choose a gradient from the Gradients Dialog This tutorial will show you how to gradient map on GIMP. Today, we learn how to use gradient maps to create an amazing effect that can be used for almost anything, resembling Instagram filters!IMPORTANT LINKS:GIMP. You could use the G'MIC filter under Rendering>Gradient [from line], to get the colours you wish to use for colourizing purposes, save that (just give it a name in the 'Save gradient as' box at the bottom of the dialogue) then refresh your GIMP gradients tab, choose the gradient you created and then apply it to the image you would like to colourize by going to Colors>Map>Gradient Map The Gradient Map filter This filter is now in the Colors menu, and allows you to colorizean image, using the color intensity of each point with the corresponding color from the active gradient (the intensity 0, ver Colors-Map->Gradient Map is the filter to use. I tried to change the offset in the blending-tool tool options, and even played with the dynamics for color, but none of these settings affect the gradient map plug-in. It is like your mapping-to gradient was rotated (and rotating a gradient is no easy thing to do in GIMP)
The GIMP also offers gradient mapping, but as far as I can tell, you set up the gradient ahead of time, do the gradeint mapping, and then it is applied. Photoshop gives a realtime update (like Preview in most other GIMP effects) that lets you tweak the colors of the gradient. As you change the sliders on the gradient, the image changes. Create gradient map from reference image for colourizing other images-----( The reference image should be a greycale image that had itself been colourized by somebody with a gradient map, so this process is intended to recreate the gradient map that had been used.) Load reference image into Gimp .10.2 tutorial, I'll show you how to color tone your images using gradient maps. This is a simple technique with fantastic results, allowing you to change the mood of your images with just a few steps

GIMP has made it easier for you to create a gradient effect to text, especially since the version 2.10. You can find a tool called Gradient Tool on GIMP 2.10 and the newer versions
I think what you are searching for is called gradient map. In Photoshop: Image → Adjustments → Gradient Map. In GIMP: Select a gradient or create one in the Gradients dialog (Ctrl + G). Colors → Map → Gradient Map Open the image you wish to apply the gradient to. Click on the Select regions by colour on the main toolbox and select the colour on the image you want to apply the gradient to. Reselect the Fill with a colour gradient and position the cursor where you wish to start the gradient
Coloring and Gradient Maps in Gimp. Hi all, Ive recently gotten in to coloring black and white images I find online such as my favorite scenes from mangas or just really cool drawings i find online. Ive basically just been layering on top of the original image and coloring in areas with paint brush. But its taking me quiet awhile to do this An easy way to make an opacity gradient with gimp using the layers function. For my posting thumbnails i wanted to use an opacity gradient (my pictures should fade from opaque to opacity). And while i like open source and dont have photoshop at home, i thought, that i could do that with gimp # Stuff to translate curve segments to palette values (derived from the corresponding code in GIMP, written by Federico Mena Quintero. See the GIMP distribution for more information.) from math import log, pi, sin, sqrt from._binary import o8 EPSILON = 1e-10 # Enable auto-doc for data membe

Gimp has a predefined gradient called incandescent which works quite well for our purpose: Gradient Tool and Incandescent Gradient Then use Menu >> Color >> Map >> Gradient Map to map the colors to your black and white layer. The Result in Gimp If you want a free program with more Photoshop-like features, I suggest you check out GIMP, which does do gradient maps and other image manipulation. You can quickly do a partly similar effect (a bit like using a 2-colour only gradient map) using 8-bit layer conversion, but it is fairly limited: Convert your colour layer/image to an 8-bit layer.
Nice but the bottom layer can just as well be filled with a bilinear black-to-50%gray gradient. Rather easy to understand on a simplified version, with a vertical and an horizontal gradient: - The horizontal gradient is just a mapping of the X coordinate of the pixels. - The curve is therefore just a function the X coordinate of the pixel This post will discuss the conversion of 2D to 3D images by means of depth maps. I will be using GIMP for my conversions, as it has gradient filters particular suitable for the job, namely the shape gradients. The first thing is to create a new layer. I then add a linear grayscale gradient to the layer Create a spiral gradient and then apply the displacement map to that spiral in rectangular coordinate space. 1) Run the editor and open your picture. I use Adobe Photoshop in this example, but you can do the same using any other program, for example, GIMP, which is freeware (I will describe the process of manual depth map creation using GIMP in the next example). 2) Select the whole image (Ctrl+A), then press Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) I'm very much a beginner with GIMP, and just learn by clicking on tools and playing with them to see what they do, and anything I cab't figure out I google and figure it out from there, but I'm having difficulty figuring out how to do something specific here. I want to apply a gradient of brightness to just a single layer of an image, but. Select your gradient tool. Press L to select the gradient tool, or bring it up from your tool. Go to the main GIMP window and ensure that the foreground colour is set to black, and the background is set to white. Ensure that the gradient is set to black-to-white (one of the ones called FG to BG) Was bored and thinking of something to try out in Gimp, a fake thermal image seemed a easy enough try, so I created a gradient (which you can download at the end of this post) and set about colouring an image in depth map style but using black as coldest and white as the hottest parts of the image In Gimp 2.8.16 If I am working with an image with an alpha channel, select a certain color or area, click on the Gradient Blend Tool then swipe the tool across the screen at the angle I want, the selected areas ONLY fill with the gradient

It then becomes possible to generate complex rims If the contour map is a white to black gradient, for instance.
Gradients Collection Volume 2 offers 22000 unique and wonderful gradients for different uses throughout Photoshop - such as in gradient layer effects / fills / gradient maps and more.
